SCIENCE <> RELIGION
GRFRQ005 - 2019
Hailing from the Glastonbury and Avebury Leylines, Teleplasmiste are the duo of Michael J York (Cyclobe, Coil, Shirley Collins) and Mark O Pilkington, (Raagnagrok, The Asterism, Strange Attractor Press), exploring sound, nature and electricity with their banks of synthesisers, bagpipes, bells and other acoustic and electrical catalysts of sound.
Following their critically acclaimed 2017 Long Player, FREQUENCY IS THE NEW ECSTASY and 2018's WISHING MACHINE EP, both on the House of Mythology label, comes their next studio work, and first release for Golden Ratio Frequencies, SCIENCE <> RELIGION : two side long abstractions, recorded in London, Somerset and Wiltshire between 2017 and 2018, capturing the enigmatic duo at play; assembled from jams, experiments and accidents that occurred during recording sessions and rehearsals.
Beginning with SCIENCE, their homage to the process music of Steve Reich, Alvin Lucier and others, Teleplasmiste pull us into a hypnotic rapture of devotional tape loop manipulations, a sermon of revery and praise, channelled through the ecstatic command of British R&B’s tragic godfather Graham Bond.
The flip side’s sprawling pipe, flute and synth odyssey, RELIGION, asks the important question: what if Tonto’s Expanding Head Band and The Third Ear Band had jammed together while on tour with Sly & the Family Stone? Droning pipes, and whispering flutes weave their way through textural squalls, squelches, and sequenced ping pong bass patterns, creating a head space journey for Astral Planers, Sine Wave Surfers and dimension trippers.
SCIENCE <> RELIGION brings a brighter beam of light not before seen from Teleplasmiste, seeped in pastoral hues of England’s hidden reverse, a mystical devotion to ancestral knowledge, stone circles, planetary alignments, and sacred geometries; the science of religion, religion of science and a joyful experimentation of the wonderful and astral.
Physical Copies come on professionally dubbed C40 Cassette tape with on body print, double sided full colour two-page inlay and silk screen Golden Spiral acetate.
